Living with the worldwide COVID Pandemic has created a NEW NORMAL in how we live, think, and plan. It is “normal” to worry about whether we will be able to travel again to our favourite Holiday spots. We are all in this together so with all the uncertainty around us let’s close our eyes and picture our favorite vacation and then create our own Holiday at Home to Age in Place!
My hubby and my favourite Holiday Place is Maui, Hawaii! We love the area, people and most of all the ocean. I love to swim with my Mahina mermaid fin and visit all our fish friends. Miss you Maui!
At home we have created our Holiday at Home to mimic Maui. A great friend who knows us well created a sign called Maui North.
Here are 4 TIPS to help you create your own “Holiday at Home”
1. FIRST > Go through your photo albums (Real & Digital)
Pick out your favorite holiday pics and arrange them on your kitchen or dining room table.
– For Digital Pics create a folder on your Desktop called “My Favorite Holiday” and put a copy of your photo here.
2. Arrange your photos by the “Holiday Location”
Put your favorite locations together. (IE: Beach, Mountain, Desert, etc) hotel, view, activities.
For digital photos put them under “My Favorite Holiday” and create separate folders of those locations.
3. Next divide those into 3 categories
- Best memories: One pile of photos that make you smile (family; friends; pets; sunsets; flowers etc.)
- Favorite Activities while there and the
- Interior Style / Decor of the Resort itself and your hotel room.
4. Look at these Groups for Commonalities
You should be seeing a very distinct theme happening.
Which location gave you the most joy? Which activity makes you smile? Which colours are you most attracted to and create a sense of calm within and inspires you?
Whether it is a Beach Theme, Mountain, City, or Old World – start with a piece of art, a wall mural from Murals Your Way, or make your own wall of memories using your own photos to create your “Holiday at Home”!
Your “Focal Art” will help you choose your main and accent wall colours, furniture & accessories – Voila you don’t have to worry about travel and catching Covid-19 because you have created your own Holiday at Home!
