I’m Jan Addams, an experienced Interior Designer with over 35 years in the field. I’m not just a designer; I’m a wife, a mother, and a proud Grandma, affectionately called Merma Jan. My mission is to infuse humor and expertise into my design process, allowing my clients to envision and create their dream Resort Style home for their golden years.

In this phase of my life, my primary goal is to revolutionize the way accessible designer housing is perceived in the market. I want to redefine the notion of aging in place by bringing resort-style luxury into the homes of Boomers who have the means and desire to live their later years in comfort and elegance. I dream of being the go-to expert for developers and builders, providing them with the tools and designs to elevate their projects, attract a specific clientele, and ultimately increase their profits.

However, this dream isn’t a smooth sail. The market is fiercely competitive, and the traditional approach to housing for the aging population is deeply ingrained. Many in the industry are resistant to change, clinging to outdated perceptions of what “aging in place” should look like. The disruption I aim for is met with skepticism and resistance.

The challenges I face are monumental. Convincing developers and builders to embrace this new approach requires breaking through preconceived notions and demonstrating the potential for success and profitability. It demands a significant investment of time, effort, and personal sacrifice to educate, convince, and reshape the market. The time delay in gaining acceptance for this disruptive approach adds to the struggle, making it a long and arduous journey.

The pain points are real and personal. The frustration of seeing the potential benefits of this innovative approach and yet facing resistance from an industry reluctant to change is disheartening. It’s painful to witness missed opportunities for improved housing solutions for the aging population, especially when I know there’s a better way.

The importance of overcoming these challenges is deeply rooted in my desire to enhance the lives of the older generation. Providing them with homes that are not just functional but also beautiful and luxurious is a cause close to my heart as I turn 65 this year. I’ve seen the impact well-designed spaces can have on an individual’s well-being and quality of life, especially as they age. Every obstacle I face is a roadblock to a future where aging in place is synonymous with comfort, style, and joy, and overcoming these obstacles is my life’s mission.

Do you know anyone out there who wants to help me take on this challenge?

Cheers to Glowing Older & Shining Brighter~
Jan
