If you have taken to RV camping and have dogs, you know the first thing they want to do is jump on the back seat and look out the window. If you have cream leather seats (like we do) and wet or dirty dogs this is a disaster waiting to happen!
I bought fabric loveseat covers. They didn’t work as they slipped every time our furry boys jumped on them. Plus, they always felt gritty and needed washing after each trip. Not very user-friendly!
I really didn’t intend to make them but after scouring the internet and not finding anything that wouldn’t cheapen the look of our Pleasureway Plateau Mercedes Sprinter, so I decided to take to my trusty sewing machine and make them myself.
Here is what I used and did.
- I bought Marine Grade Black Vinyl (really tough and easy to clean)
- I made a template of the extending sofa back and seat (I used extra material on the bottom of the back to tuck behind.)
- I made a template of the side seats and backs.
- I also made an armrest that fits between the back and side seats (to protect the walls).
- I sewed a ‘mock set’ out of old sheets to ensure they worked
- I sewed my pattern together, tested them and they fit awesome!
Next, we had to test drive them on our next trip. We took to the beach. Our boys and lots of fun but had mud on their bodies and feet. I rinsed our puppy’s feet as best I could. As predicted, as soon as they got into “the coach” they jumped on the back seat. Wet paws with residual mud littered the back seat. I simply took a wet dishcloth and wiped off the mud and Voila’ – back to new!
